How can you make your hair color last longer when you use the permanent box color kits?!?

I cant afford to get my hair done so i do it my self with the kits from the super market. Even the most permanent color i get, seems to fade even after the first week of coloring. Im lucky if my color looks good for two weeks. Any ideas?

The color will last much longer if you purchase the color from a beauty supply store instead of from the boxed color found at grocery stores. It actually costs less at the beauty supply store. Try not to wash your hair in hot water at first. It is better to wash with cooler water at first. There are also shampoos that are geared for color treated hair that is worth investing in that you can purchase from a regular store. Actually sometimes beauty supply stores have some pretty good sales on shampoo. Personally I don't really think it matters what brand you use for conditioner as long as it is a name brand. Suave is a good economical brand and it works great.

try using a creamy shampoo instead of clear shampoo, which strips.

I believe some stylists add a bit of the dye to conditioner, and the person whose hair has been dyed uses that once a week to keep the color strong. Or you could use special shampoo. John Freida is supposed to be good.

Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. Don't wash everyday either, unless you really have to. I use a 24 shampoo out hair color, because it is not as harsh on your hair and looks a lot more natural.

Definitely use a shampoo and conditioner that is made for colored hair. I love Pantene or Dove. Dove has shampoo and conditioner made specifically for lighter or darker colored hair that works great. Also, wash your hair every other day, in between use a shower cap. Make sure to stay out of the sun, or rather keep your hair out of the sun by buying a cute hat. UV rays are most damaging to hair and skin between 10-2, and will fade your color like crazy. Hope this helps!
