What hair color is best for a tan complexion with pink undertones?

My natural hair color is a very plain medium brown. (I call it field mouse brown). I just finished growing it out after years of beaming blondeness. I have light blue eyes, and I have a medium tan, and my skin has pink /red undertones to it. What I want is a dark, dark brown. But I'm not sure that color is right for me. I've seen women with that color who have olive complexions, and they look stunning. The one demi color I have my eye on is by Matrix in the chocolate cherry collection...it has a red base. Would that look good on me? I don't want to dye my hair a color and end up looking like a corpse, nor do I want a color that makes my face look beet red. If you don't think dark brown is the way to go, then do you know what will work?

a color similar Eva Longeria will suit you....a brown with several different color highlights (strawberry blonde, bronze like, etc.) more highlights in the front...will bring out your eyes..

Don't dye your hair - there are so many studies now that show it is so carcinogenic. I understand your feelings about looking professional, though. Go to a very good salon, and talk to them about what they can do with highlights (don't know what lowlights are!). Don't go an extreme colour, or anything. God gave you the colour he did for a reason!

you could do a mud flap. It when a darker color takes up the bottom half of your hair.( you could do a darker brown) and then have the same brown hi-lighted into the rest of your hair. you wil of course need another color like a shade of blond to also highlight into the highlighted brown. there are so many colors. just find one that is closest to your natural color; have a little fun with it, and get blonde or red highlights (watch out, some of them can be very red); if you're going to do it yourself something close to brown is your best bet. if you want to go more blonde, i'd get a professional.

If you have fair skin.. you need to stay away from black and any browns that is extremely dark, unless you do it profressionaly and have highlights done through it... another thing you can do is an under %26amp; high Light done. Well you dont want to go too dark with light complexion and not too light as it will look fake. Try just dyeing a shade darker than your normal color and highlight with caramel color. That would look good and professional.

with out seeing you it is hard to advise a color... but things to keep in mind before coloring... Once you color you need to maintain, that means every 2-3 months getting a touch up. all over color is the easiest..and cheapest, but highlight and low lights can make dull hair shimmer, and help to hide the gray. I think if you go to your stylist and ask her/his opinion, he/ she will be more than happy to work with you to find the best color option.

I agree with a copper or burnish color.but it is the hardest to keep from fading.. highlights would be good too...the one thing to remember about color is....all over color will show a demarcation line sooner that highlights...semi-color will cover the gray but less intensely than the brown hair...making subtle highlights and less noticeable roots...all that being said.....I would a least choose a color that say "warm" or "golden"...... fair skin could use the warmth and it will pick up your eyes!!!

It would look best to cover grays with your natural color. That also makes sure roots don't show, which will look very professional.

I went to a new salon and the hair stylist applied dark brown hair dye only to the top 3-4 inches of growth for about 45 minutes.Then he combed it through the bottom 10 inches for the last 5 minutes. When it was all done and over the top 3-4 inches of my hair is dark brown and the rest is a light orangey brown. I would like to have my hair all one color. Being a cosmetologist, I am trying to picture what you are describing. Did you have color on it before and there was regrowth? If the color was dark brown I'm trying to understand how they got light orangey brown. Was that part highlighted before?

If you are looking for all one color... to match your natural hair color, there was no reason to leave it on the roots that long before pulling it through.

I agree with the others... go somewhere else.... Or go back (just to a different stylist) and tell them to fix it right. You shouldn't have to pay for their mistake.

I really really like the red! The black is good also. But I think the red is by far the best! I don't think you need to wear much make up. Your young and have very nice skin i wouldn't cover it up with a heavy base. Hey have you tried any of the mineral make up? The powder is really nice and will make you have a natural glow.

Definitely the red. The blonde sort of washes out your skin (though it could be the lighting of the picture) and makes you look older than the other pictures show you to be. Jet black or a warm deep brown would also look gorgeous I think. Good luck and have fun!

I originally have dark brown hair(almost black), n i just dyed my hair to dark orangey/reddish brown around 2 weeks ago. So now im thinking of mixing on a bright funky purple color (using Special effects product from haircrazy.com) onto my hair. Will it look good with my current hair color or should i dye the rest with jetblack/darkbrown? N i know i should bleach the part i want to put the purple on. Will it be hard to bleach according to my natural hair color n the dye i put on?

I have a friend who dyed her hair black and has purple streaks, it looks v gd. i think u should dye your hair black because it sounds to me like it would go better with the purple than what you have now. and yes bleaching black hair is difficult but it can be done. Alternatively you could find some good quality purple extensions and cut them to match your hair length, this would be better as bleaching isn't good for your hair at all.

i dont want to completely dye my hair, but im going to get my hair colored at some salon for the first time so i want some advice...can you tell me how i could get my hair colored, meaning the style and position, and what colors i could use? i have dark brown hair and i want to dye it some funky color, not some lighter brown or blonde :P

Well I cant answer most of what you want to know, all I can do is offer some minor tips I have learned.

First off Color removes Color. You are likely to get some on your skin or scalp... It is very hard to wash off most of the time. So keep the little bit you have left that you did not put in your hair. Rub that into the spots where it has stained your skin before you wash it out. It can lift the pigment up and you will not be stained as bad or even not at all in some cases.

Pick up some good rubber gloves, not those cheap plastic ones that come with some dyes, they can leak...

Keep it way away from the eyes, not worth a chance.

Some people have allergys, even a minor one. Eathing things high in potasium like bananas can increase that bad reaction. So avoid that for 24 hrs befor useing the color. I have a minor one and know to take a benidryl about an hr before hand so I will not have any reaction at all.

Just remember if you do something weird then you may not be able to cover it up if you decide you dont like it.

Alot of this is for you doing your own. But think about the reaction and allergys.

When I dye my hair I never use shampoo to get the hair dye out... I rinse it and leave the conditioner they give you for atleast 5 minutes. I'd go for an angluar hair cut that frames your face. They say shorter hair makes you look younger. A brunette or dark rich colour which would also help frame your face. The blonde you have now doesn't contrast well with your face. The best way to find out without damaging your hair is to use the iVillage makeover site. I have got BRIGHT blonde hair, in natural light, my hair looks white. I keep it bleached this way. But I've wanted to go extremely dark for the longest time, but the idea scares me, bad. So, I bought some Raw Color Jet Black Semi-Permi hair color, From Hot Topic. But I'm still leery, Can anyone give me an idea of how long it will stay in my hair and if there might be a chance of it like...staining my hair maybe? Please be careful using this product. This weekend I used it on my daughter. The room was well ventilated and she passed out and had tremors from the fumes. We ended up in the emergency room. We have used other products and never had a problem before. I have contacted the company that makes this and they have not gotten back to us. There are no warnings on the bottle at all. Please don't do this alone. She ended up hitting her head on the floor also when she fell. I don't want to scare people but I want to warn them before something happens. We were luck I know what to do in these cases.

Go to Walmart or a large drugstore and look for "Fanciful Rinse. It will cover whatever mess you have, BUT you have to reapply it after each shampoo. You comb it through after you wash your hair. It is available in a wide range of colors and it isn't too expensive, so just get the dark brown one. Maybe it will be called chocolate or "mink" or some sort of cute name...it absolutely, positively will NOT hurt your hair. I recommended it here to someone else %26amp; she was thrilled with the results. I have used it myself when I got my hair really brassy years ago. So, just keep using that until your mom calms down %26amp; lets you put in a more permanent rinse.

I had natural medium brown hair with golden highlights from the sun. my hair was 100% dye-free before I bought a box of Clairol "SEMI-PERMANENT" dye in midnight black. Semi-permanent is complete false adversitement! This junk will not wash off! I seriously just want the black tint to fade... I don't mind dark hair but I don't want this hideous black tint! I look like Elvira! I'm going to attempt washing my hair with Prell since a hair specialist suggested that. If that doesn't work can someone please let me know what a salon will do to remove this junk? I plan on booking an appointment for tomorrow at a high end salon for a color consultation and correction. What are the options at the salon? I don't want my hair fried with bleach, and I don't want to have to deal with hair dye and roots. Please tell me there's something that will lift this dye out. well, if its semipermanent it'll take about 28ish shampoos to come out. you can try using a clarifying shampoo, that might help. also, you can buy a hot oil treatmeant, such as the VO5 one that's in a little tube (i think it's about 2ish dollars), that should help get the color out as well. the salon would probably just strip your hair of the color, it'll get your hair back to its natural color, but it is a somewhat drying process for your hair, other than that...good luck!

Now the color seems like a variety of shades and I'm thinking it's time to go all one color again! I wear light pinks when it comes to make-up. Light pink eyeshadow on top/pale purple on eyelid, black eyeliner and mascara, bronzer on cheeks/chin, and lipstick...I'm really not sure right now! It sounds like the blonde would be cute for you, or a light brown with golden highlights. But if you're going to go one color do a dark brunette. It's stunning. I'd ditch the black eyeliner and get brown though, becuase might be kind of stark with such delicate coloring, esp. if you go blonde. Your makeup would be best suited to a blonde. A brunette would wear maybe violets on the eyes and a darker lip color.

I have got BRIGHT blonde hair, in natural light, my hair looks white. I keep it bleached this way. But I've wanted to go extremely dark for the longest time, but the idea scares me, bad. Please be careful using this product. This weekend I used it on my daughter. The room was well ventilated and she passed out and had tremors from the fumes. We ended up in the emergency room. Color does not lift color. You will have to use a bleach. But since you have been doing all that other to your hair I would strongly recommend going to a salon because you will have undertones to predict that will come through. You'll most likely end up w/ orange or bright yellow. A salon can predict and tone unwanted colors.

If you want to go back to your natural blonde, then never use any hair color of any shade of brown, no matter how light. They won't lighten. You have to jump to dark ash blonde right away. Eventually, it'll blend in. But to lighten the brown still left on your hair, only blonde shades will do that! You might even have to go lighter yet to lighten the brown. But go lighter one shade at a time and you'll find the balance at some point. I know because I had this problem myself!

well, if its semipermanent it'll take about 28ish shampoos to come out. you can try using a clarifying shampoo, that might help. also, you can buy a hot oil treatmeant, such as the VO5 one that's in a little tube (i think it's about 2ish dollars), that should help get the color out as well. the salon would probably just strip your hair of the color, it'll get your hair back to its natural color, but it is a somewhat drying process for your hair, other than that...good luck!

Right now the black color of you hair is a dye. You will have to strip your hair of the dyed color. Since your last dye job was only a couple of weeks ago this will be hard on your hair. I would suggest letting your hair have a rest before stripping it and dyeing it again. Hair can only stand so much abuse.

but nothing will dye over black.

if you color in a black marker or crayon, and color over it with another marker/crayon, you cant see that color.

I have always gotten my hair done at a salon. My natural color is dark blond (perhaps wheat blond). I have gotten highlights for several years and very recently I went to the salon and asked my stylist to color my hair to match my bright highlights. However, the color she used was not light, it was dark and I am very disappointed. I am considering using a hair color or highlight product and fixing this myself. I think if u went toa CVS or walgreens and bought a hair color that you want like a Honey blond lets say your hair will lighting but also your hight light and make sure you buy 2 cz you will have to get your whole hair well ask a friend so she can get your every string of hair.

Your hair is dammaged and therefor wont hold colour. your hair was probaly not properly treated or dyed properly by your hair dresser. she may have used too high of a devoloper when depositing colour or lifting your hair. u have to remember.. just cause u dye your highlights back to your normal hair colour or lift a colour out.. (ie black to blond) u still have those chemicals on your hair till they are compleatly cut out. so there isnt much u can really do except use a hair repairing shampoo and conditioner, i strongly recomend going to your local paul mitchell salon and getting a hair repair treatment. after doing that a few times get your hair dyed using paul mitchell the colour because it uses a very low amonia amount in its dye saturation. it will be more gentle for your hair and have better results

You may need to watch the shampoo/conditioner you are using. I color my hair because it has gone grey very early and I had been using a product by Tigi Bedhead, I think it was called moisture maniac, and apparently the product contains things that help clean off the hair. My dark brown color was fading to reddish copper very quickly. My hair dresser told me to stop using it or any product that "chelates" or strips hair of chemicals.

I have since switched to the bronze goddess line and color is holding better.

Now reading the back of the can I see that it says that people with light blond hair sould "proceed with caution"-I am assuming in relation to removability. If any permanent color was used it will never go away until your hair grows out, nor will the highlights themselves. If your hairstylist used a semi or demi toner over the highlights, that will fade in about six weeks.

Your options are either a complete color correction which is very expensive and without guaranteed results, or keep toning over the highlights every few weeks until your outgrowth catches up with your hair length or lastly, a hair cut.

There are no products on the market that can speed this process up and I do not recommend any further chemical treatments at this point.

Beautiful hair color. I would say that it is a reddish brown. Try Herbal Essence brand of hair color. They have a big selection of different colors. It's also not as harsh on your hair, meaning it doesn't damage your hair as much as other brands. If you can print the picture out on a color printer, you can take pic with you to help you find a color that matches as close as possible.

why don't you get highlights the spring season is here and highlights will give you a dramatic change and won't make you look manly. darker hair usually makes you look a little older.

Depends on your skin tone, if you have very pale skin, blonde is fine if you have dark skin go darker...

but id recommend trying out with highlights rather than an all over dye, because tehn you wont get into the cycle of having to keep dying your hair (which will damage it, and it wont grow bac as quick or as healthy as u want it too)

OK so I wanted to get some blonde highlights on my medium brown hair for spring. I always feel better when I highlight my hair. I also always do it myself and it always looks good. HOWEVER, this time it came out like an orangish color. So I did it over and now I have blonde on top, reddish in the middle and brown at the ends!!! LOL!!!!! I look like a calico cat. I can't afford a pricey salon color so I am thinking of just getting an all over color. If I do it a light brown or a medium brown then I will still have lightness throughout right? use an ash brown on the orange rings only . the reason your hair came out the way it did is there is color from before on it . or you didn't let it lift enough . You get what you pay for when you do it yourself . Honestly ! Go to a cosmetology school and the costs is reasonable . If you use ash only on the orange areas it will neutralize it and the brown will come out normal . Good luck

I originally have dark brown hair(almost black), n i just dyed my hair to dark orangey/reddish brown around 2 weeks ago. So now im thinking of mixing on a bright funky purple color (using Special effects product from haircrazy.com) onto my hair. Will it look good with my current hair color or should i dye the rest with jetblack/darkbrown? N i know i should bleach the part i want to put the purple on. Will it be hard to bleach according to my natural hair color n the dye i put on?

Should i dye all of my hair with black/darkbrown first, n then bleach the part i want to put the purple on?

I have a friend who dyed her hair black and has purple streaks, it looks v gd. i think u should dye your hair black because it sounds to me like it would go better with the purple than what you have now. and yes bleaching black hair is difficult but it can be done. Alternatively you could find some good quality purple extensions and cut them to match your hair length, this would be better as bleaching isn't good for your hair at all.

I think you would look great if you kept the same color tone but added some streaks of several different blonds that are lighter and darker. That way it will look more vibrant and really flatter your skin tone.

well i think you should stop getting the dye in a box because it really isnt that good of stuff.. go to a stylist and ask for a 2 or 3 tone warm brown color and in my opinion you should think about tapering in the front and layering in front and back and think about cutting off about 2 inches of length.. oh yeh and make sure the layers are soft and long

I think you should go with a darker color..... not black, but a good rich dark brown. The blonde hair doesn't do much for your skin. A darker brown would accentuate your eyes.....and I can tell you have the kind of hair that would have a glossy finish if you dyed it dark.....

I don't know if the color is black for all people, but I do not think so. I think it must be like some mens beards are though. It is a variation of the color of the hair on your head but usually darker than your hair. Also, I read that Marilyn Monroe used to bleach her pubic hair so that it matched the hair on her head.

As far as I know all pubic hair is black. This goes for all people except albinos, their pubic hair is charcoal grey. Another exception is Australian people who lack pubic hair and genitals.

An interesting note off topic. Austalian people reproduce asexually. What happens is when an Australian is sexually mature a lump appears on the Australians lower back, after about three weeks a complete Australian child budds off.

I wanted to get a golden brown color . but as long that my hair had been thru crazy color process: -highlights like 2 years ago ( first time coloring my hair) then it started fading and i didn't re-touch but re-apply a permanent color in Havana brown (red-brunish).... and then i changed it to dark brown. Now I'm changing it into golden but as long as my aunt was who applied it for me (total disaster!!) and my hair ended up just getting the color in the roots. super crazy!!! Now i have to apply alotttttttt of deep treatments and I have to wait up to 2 weeks almost to get my hair all-done. Is this true or what should i have to do???

You definitely should keep applying the conditioning treatments. Take showers in the evening. If you have a shower cap, put your conditioner on while in the shower and leave it on all night. If you don't, you can always try wrapping your hair in a towel, but the conditioner will end up being absorbed by it.

Also, when you do go to get your color, PLEASE go to a professional and don't let your aunt do it. But if you are dead-set on having a family member do your hair or if you don't have the money to spend to go to a salon, get the toll-free number for the Clairol company and speak to them and get some insight as to how to proceed. Once you buy the Clairol color, call them again if you are unsure about how to apply, etc.

I'm only 26 and I've had the same issue for a few years now so don't feel bad. :-) I was told by a colorist in an Aveda salon that a light shade such as blond would obviously help, since you usually can't even spot grey mixed in with blond. The grey would appear to be platinum highlights. However, my hair is dark brown and I'm not willing to damage it again by going blond, plus it's ridiculously expensive to have your roots done every few weeks at the salon. So I tried several SEMI-permanent hair color shades and brands (supposed to last 24 shampoos) that were specifically advertised to cover grey, but even the black one made no different at all on the grey after about 2 shampoos. I wasn't willing to try anything permanent, since I know if I screw things up my hair would end up doubly damaged when I went to the salon to have them correct it. I know one streak can make you very self-conscious, especially since you're only 35 and probably look very young otherwise. Light blond or brown highlights are also an option, but they tend to be even more expensive than all over color. However, the maintenance is less often.

But if you're going to color it, I'd strongly suggest having it professionally done by a colorist who specializes in covering grey- at least the first time. I don't feel comfortable recommending any of the at-home products I used, since none of them were effective for me. I think that's a question best answered by a professional (who isn't trying to sell you something!)

You need to go into a beauty supply store and talk to a person in there. make sure you get the right developer and be cautious.... dont go too dark or too light. I really wouldn't try this at home. Why not ask your hairdresser for an all over toner instead? This would gradually fade after a few weeks. you already have two clolours on your hair. Be careful, and seek proper advice. it really is worth the expense.

Most hair colour brands that you can buy at a pharmacy/chemist have websites that you can go to. These sites have tools to help you decide what colour to choose based on your current colour, and how dramatic of a change you want.

You didn't specify what your natural colour is, so I can not give you advice in that department.

I have dyed my hair nuclear red before, and it was well worth it, but I only had it that way for the holidays (Valentine's Day). My hair is naturally very dark, so the contrast between the nuclear red and dark brown looked really nice. I eventually dyed the whole thing bad to dark brown though, since, like you said, it was too much work to maintain.
