Coloring dark hair to light?
How likely is it that I閳ユ獟l need more than 1 color treatment to get it to a shade of dark blond.?
My hair is dark, dark brown--almost black (thick %26amp; resistant). I閳ユ獓 like to get my hair to a dark blonde or possibly a very, very, very light brown--at it's darkest.
Will I have to dye my hair blond and then re-dye with blond again, resulting in lighter shades of brown, until it finally lightens to blond? I ask because that閳ユ獨 what happened last time I dyed my hair. But that was about 12 years ago, so I'm hoping to find ***wishful thinking*** that color technology has improved a bit. Or, as they seem to often say "revolutionized".
I'm trying to figure out which color I'll need. If I go with a super light blond, trying to get--at least--a light brown...Imagine my surprise if it ACTUALLY colors my hair the color on the box the first time I use it.Ooops! omg! :-o
How many colorings can our hair withstand w/out 2 much damage?(Not incl. new growth roots)

this is exactly what i did a couple months ago. i'd say Definitely go to a salon. i once tried to do it myself and it was a Horrible disaster.. anyway tell them you want it to look "blonde overall" and they'll probly suggest highlights all over. this is what i did and repeated a couple times and i have great results.. plus if you do a bunch of highlights, it grows in ALOT better because when darker hair people dye they hair much lighter, it gets a skunk-looking line when it starts to grow back in. best of luck!

I have the same hair, very dark and thick like a frickin horses mane lol. You have to be careful if you use blonde what color your hair would lift to- mine is kind of a burnt orange or copper. You will have to do it more than once because it won't last long but you need to give your hair time to breath. If you want all your hair lighter or just highlights. If you do just highlights, I got the lightest blonde and it still wasn't very blonde.
If your hair is dye free color will hold onto it better than if it has been colored. If you're growing color out, be sure to be careful with your roots because that's fresh new hair and it will end up a different color than the rest of your hair growing out.
If you want a light brown get the lightest brown shade and see how that works for you or the darkest blonde and see how your hair takes to that. You don't want to use a permanent use a semi-permanent and color will wash out with every wash, it will last about 6 weeks.
Good luck!

I've dyed my hair black many times before and i've just went to the hairdresser and they dyed it all blonde, i dyed it black again about 2 year ago and this year i decided i wanted a change - so i went back to blonde but i stripped it to a gingery blonde colour by using " garnier belle blonde pre lightner " it done no damage to my hair, a week after doing that i used " garnier belle colour " in the shade of blonde and it went a nice browny blonde, but i wanted it pure blonde so i kept re dying it with that and herbal essence and now it's ruined so i'd say after 8 times of dying it will start falling out..

Well, what you can do is get a hair color stripping kit. I know it's for hair that has been colored. But you can also just use it to lighten your hair. I used it just the other day. You leave it in your hair and it will slowly lighten your color. Then just rinse it when you think it's light enough. Then dye it to the blonde color you want. If you leave it in for a long enough time it will take your hair to a blonde anyway but you can tell it's fake so you could just put blonde dye in it. After you use the stripping kit though wait about 24 hours at least before putting dye on it. Good luck!

You don't use hair dye/color, attempting to put a light color on top of dark would be equivalent to trying to color a black piece of paper with a yellow ink pen to try and get it lighter. (hope that makes sense)
You need to use a bleaching aid,
"Bleach is used to lighten hair. The bleach reacts with the melanin in hair, removing the color in an irreversible chemical reaction."

Often DIY bleaching without better understanding of hair and bleaching chemicals, will result in patchy brassy colors, destroyed hair (dry, breaking and weakness) and unhappy outcomes.
Conclusion, it is difficult or near impossible in cases of using box hair dyes to lighten up several shades. DIY, Bleaching often ends with unhappy results and is a very tedious process that needs patients and progression (it won't happen over night and should be done over several weeks or months).
You also have to take into consider your hair type, length and health statues. All will play a role in your hairs outcome through trial and error.
If you are wanting to go through with the procedure, i would suggest speaking with a COLOR specialist, who could evaluate your hairs abilities. Also avoid grocery and drug store bought products, and browse through beauty supply stores.
In relation though, read through this website for some tips and product reviews, it's "how to go Barbie blonde", but you can use the instructions and apply them to your own hair goal.

You should never try to go that big of a difference on your own. Especially not with the box crap you get at Walmart type stores. Any bleaching is going to damage your hair, and going from nearly black to dark blonde could double, triple process depending on your hair. You could easily end up with some hot orange mess. You should go to a salon that has a colorist. That way you are most assuredly going to be getting a good color and in the safest way possible. your colorist should also be able to tell you before hand what he/she thinks it will take to get your hair the color you want it.
