How do i dye my hair evenly if i always color it and now my real dark color is growing back 1 inch?

i have been to a professional and he says if i dye my hair the color with bind to the roots(where my natural hair color is) and the rest where i have colored a few times will have a different shade, it means ill get lighter on the roots and darker on the rest of it? what do i do? i have been coloring my hair from brown to black to light brown to redish brown to black again now its dark brown that kind of orange under the sun, i bought hair color now its light brown-golden brown clairol. do i bleach my hair first? how do i remove the color before i start? or should i just go with it?

Color will not lift color, so if you want to go to a lighter color, you will have to either bleach which I dont recommend or color remove. I would recommend you go to a professional for this. To prevent "color over" when you touch up your roots use a permant hair color, then rinse it out and use a semi-permant all over. This will blend you color together without making you ends darker than you roots.

With all the different coloring you have done you should go to a master colorist. It is more expensive but they are trained to do it. If you try to do it yourself you will make it a different color. The store bought products all vary in their base color and if you combine the wrong base with your hair color you could be in for a colorful mistake.

the color you bought will only give you an even color if it's darker than the hair that's already colored, which it sounds like it isn't. if it's lighter, then you'll get a lighter color at the regrowth and darker ends (hot roots). if you want to go a lighter color than what's on the ends, you might want to see your stylist, especially after having processed it so many times previously. i think you'll find you'll be much happier
