Hair color attempt gone wrong, can you help?

My daughter went to a beautician about 6 months ago to have blonde highlights put in her hair. He didn't do very well...she was left with a 2" blonde strip of hair down both sides of her head. Over time, it has grown out considerably, so you can imagine how horrible it looked while down. Well, she decided this week that she was tired of always having to pull her hair up to hide the stripes, so she bought some do-it-yourself hair color this afternoon. She bought a dark ash blonde. About 30 minutes ago, she finished coloring it, and now the stripes are a light greenish/grayish blonde color, and the rest of her hair is absolutely perfect. Her hair is naturally a medium blonde color, but I guess the beautician kind of bleached it to put the highlights in, and it seems almost like the bleached part just won't fully absorb the color we are putting in. Is there anything we can put on just the stripes to make it match the rest of her head?

When they streaked her hair they striped it. They damaged it so much that it may not take much color. My hair was so fried even my hairdresser couldnt get it to take enough color. Every time she tries to color it it will fill in the Hair cuticle. It can only take so much color before it will be full. Her best bet would be to try again using a golden color, not ash! Ash will always make your hair go a bit green. Dont dye it more than once more or you will risk not being able to fix it because the shaft will be full. Then buy a reconstuctive shampoo and try to get her hair healthier. Once it is reparing itself it will take more color, it is just to damaged right now. This is what I was told to do with my hair, and it worked. It should only take a month or so before it will take more color. Her other option is bleaching all of her hair, and trying to repair it from there, but it would be a lot harder to do. Good Luck

This happened to me as a kid. I had to get my hair totally stripped professionally and then they dyed it close to my natural color. I think you need to find someone very experienced (not cheap) to fix this.

go to a different beautician, explain the problem, and they will most likely find a color closest to her natural hair color and then dye the streaks. And if she still wants highlights, then the beautician will probably put in less premantent, subtle highlights or a caramel highlighting color.

When her hair was bleached all of the red pigment was removed. Ash is a green-based color, so you need to put the red back in. Warm shades are red based. It would probably be best to go to a reputable salon and let them add the red pigment back to the streaks and recolor them as they can get the product needed instead of just more dye.

take her to a different beautician, my step-daughter did something similiar to her hair, we tried to correct at home 3x and had no luck over a period of 4 months. Just do it right, go to a professional, you dont want to fry her hair.

use a color stripper and put on the color you want again but leave it on for a while to make sure the color takes. you r gonna need to use a color safe shampoo and conditioner.

go to a real stylist and have them snip that part off and give her a new style she'll love you forever for it. it'll be pricey but well worth it! good luck!

stay away from ash, it will make hair turn green. go get the hair done by a professional. it will be the best thing to do.

okay i have had this happen before. Buy a hair color remover kit, it's in the hair color section, it will remove all artificial color and strip some of the natural color out. Then die it again with a color a couple shades darker than her natural shade. This technique worked for me. And I didn't need a beautician to do it! GOOD LUCK!

Whenever any type of colored hair is bleached, it is taking all the pigment out.

Now, the dark ash Blonde, ash ALWAYS gives bleached hair a green tone afterward. Also, whenever you want to recolor bleached hair it has to be filled, a fancy term for putting color in it before actually adding the color you desire. So the best thing for your daughter is taking her to professional colorist to do the job. Anytime hair is bleached the best thing to do is going a professional to retouch it, because doing at home with a box color will most likely give you an undesired result. hope that helps!
