I have dark brown hair almost black with blonde highlights

I want to dye half my hair blonde. I got a box from target and i want to do it soon. I just need to know if it will turn it orange or ugly =]

Just reply and try to help me. I need advice. Yes i know my hair might get dryed out but i have really good conditioner =]

Yup. Also if it does turn orange what can i do to fix it, without going to a professional??

You can't use a lighter color over dark hair to get lighter hair. You must use bleach and you really should have it done professionally. But if you can't afford it, then maybe try a beauty college - at least they'll know more about color than you and you can definitely save some money.

Box color will only lighten your hair about 2 shades. It will turn orange!

Im a hairdresser, and it cant be done. You need to have BLEACH put on it, to lighten it....

The box colors just dye over your natural... They cant lighten.

I have dark brown hair too and i find it easier to dye it into a very light brown and then to blonde. I got "l'oreal feria" hair coloring and it worked! You have to leave it on for a long time (like over an hour) and don't worry about your hair drying out (mine didn't). The box should come with a conditioner/shampoo.

If it turns orange, i'd leave it that way (since i love red/orange hair LOL). Or just dye it over again with a darker color.

use a dye with an ash color in it. it will help it not turn orange

Don't do it. You will fry your hair. Listen to the voice of experience here. I used to really mess with my hair and the first time I did this I looked like a tabby cat. The next time I did it I used an ash blonde, which apparently turns your hair green ish. It may cost a lot initially but get it done at a salon. You may be able to do your roots at home then. Really good conditioner will not help much if you fry your hair. Mine had the consistency of hay because I had to do it more than once to get past the orange phase. I had to end up cutting it really short. That is the only cure for fried hair. Sorry to be the bearer of not so great news.

I suggest if you are unhappy with your haircolor, try going a shade or two darker or lighter or maybe try more subtle highlights, consider that some people don't look good blonde. Looking back at photos I don't think I did. Before doing anything drastic you may want to go try on some blonde wigs of the shade you are looking for and take some friends who will be brutally honest with you about how you look.

if your hair is colored dark brown, the box color will do absolutely nothing but damage your hair. color cannot lift color. if the brown is actually your natural color, and there is NO artificial color ANYWHERE on that strand of hair, you MAY get 2 levels of lift out of that box, and it will most likely be pumpkin orange. color only works for 45 minutes. leaving it on longer doesn't do any good. color has an "automatic timer" built in. it shuts off. the chemical will continue to damage your hair, but it won't get any lighter. bleach will, color won't. if (when) it turns orange, you can call your salon and hope they have an appointment available to get your head fixed. and hope they take pity on you and don't charge you what they should to fix what you shouldn't have attempted on your own. it *will* be cheaper in the long run to throw that box in the trash now and just call the salon in the morning and let your stylist lighten your hair from start to finish.
